Rates for wastewater are determined by the City of Waterloo Common Council. The current rates are effective as of January 15, 2013:
SUMMER SEWER MAXIMUM
For all customers the sewer bill is based on 100% of the water gallons used plus the monthly meter fee. However, for residential customers a summer sewer maximum helps to avoid sewer from being charged on water used for lawn sprinkling, car washing, etc. Here’s how the summer sewer maximum works:
The utility will review each residential customer’s water usage from October through March and calculate the average plus 20%. This average becomes the customer’s sewer maximum for the summer months. An average of 6,000 gallons will be used for customers who do not have an established average from the prior winter months.
The summer months are the July, August and September bills or usage from approximately June 15th through September 15th. Residential customers will only pay sewer charges on the lesser of their actual water usage or their summer sewer maximum.
If you are filling a swimming pool prior to June 15th or after September 15th, please read your water meter when you begin and end. Call the office and let us know your readings and the date you filled the pool. A credit will be issued on your next bill. No credits will be given for less than 1,000 gallons.
The utility, upon request, will furnish and install an additional meter for water service customers for the purpose of measuring the volume of water used that is not discharged into the sanitary sewer system. The utility shall charge a meter installation charge of $40.00 and a monthly rental fee for the use of this additional meter. These charges will apply to any additional deduct meter, permanent or seasonal (kept for longer than one week), that is used to meter water not being discharged into the sanitary sewer system.
Monthly Additional Meter Rental Charge:
5/8" meter - $4.50
3/4" meter - $4.50
1” meter - $6.00
1 ¼” meter - $7.50
1 ½" meter - $9.00
