Waterloo Utilities is seeking a candidate to become a water/wastewater operator. The individual hired will be responsible for day-to-day operations, maintenance and repair of the water and wastewater system. Applicants must obtain a state-defined certification in water and wastewater and to maintain the certificate thereafter. Applicant must have the ability to perform strenuous physical labor and heavy manual tasks. Knowledge of safety rules and good communications skills are of the utmost importance. Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, and a valid driver’s license. Applicants should possess or be able to obtain a valid commercial driver’s license. Drug and alcohol screening are required. This position requires after-hours emergency repairs, with evening, weekend and holiday on-call duty. Applicants must be able to respond to these situations in thirty minutes or less.
